BROCH OF GURNESS

another neolithic site on orkney's mainland - broch of gurness.
it's really interesting how these neolithic sites survived in orkney and caithness.
i realised that neolithic people were far from primitive, had highly organised social structure and also very well knew how to build these structures to last centuries. what's also interesting, the general building rules and 'floorplan' was relatively similar to skara brae..
will there be anything left of our modern architecture in let's say 500years?

admission £6.50
.

wejscie 6.50gbp

it is speculated that alive or fresh fish was kept in these clay sealed holes
mowi sie ze w tych dziurach uszczelnionych glina trzymano zywe ryby i owoce morza

welcome to the broch

steps to upper level   /  schody na 'wyzszy poziom'

a wall  /   sciana

there was a 'corridor' around broch, entrances to individual houses were make right from this sheltered corridor
dookola wiezy, broch, byl osloniety korytarz, z niego wlasnie wchodzilo sie do poszczegolnych domow

there are speculations that neolithic people kept guard dogs in there
spekuluje sie ze neolityczni ludzie trzymali tu psy obronne

this 'floorplan' reminds me of skara brae   /  ten plan pomieszczen mieszkalnych bardzo mi przypomina skara brae
